PICR offers onsite training only in Court Reporter Training with Theory (A101) and Court Reporter Training without Theory (B201).  All online programs, plus training in CART/Captioning, Scoping, and Voice, are offered through BRSCR.  Information about these additional programs is for convenience only.  Please visit www.BRSCR.com for specific information.

ADMISSIONS 

ADMISSION:  Enrollment in Court Reporter Training with Theory (A101) or Online (A102) is open to any person who has completed high school or equivalent GED.  A student may enter Court Reporter Training with Theory (A101) in our Fall or Spring enrollment period. 

Enrollment in Court Reporter Training without Theory (B201) or Online (B202) is open to any student who has successfully completed a recognized theory program, and is able to steno write at a speed of 40 wpm.  A student may enter Court Reporter Training without Theory (B201) at any time year-round after having met admission requirements, if there is availability of space. 

Enrollment in Scopist Training Online (C302) is open to any student who has a high school diploma or equivalent GED. 

Enrollment in CART/Captioning Training (D401) or Online (D402) is open to any person who has completed high school or equivalent GED.  A student may enter CART/Captioning Training in our Fall or Spring enrollment period.

Enrollment in  Voice Writing CR Training (E101) is open to any person who has completed high school or equivalent GED.  This program is offered as an online program only and may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements. 

Enrollment in Voice Writing CART/Captioning Training (E201) is open to any person who has completed high school or equivalent GED.  This program is offered as an online program only and may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements.

Any online version of the above listed programs may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements.

A copy of student’s high school diploma, driver’s license, and Social Security card will be necessary. 

 

ENROLLMENT DATES:  Court Reporter Training with Theory (A101) is offered three times a year, in February, June and October.  Enrollment must be completed with the  Administrative Office prior to scheduled orientation dates (see school calendar)The online version of this program (A102) may be entered at any time year-round through BRSCR.com after having met admission requirements.

 

Court Reporter Training without Theory (B201) is offered year-round.  A student may enter the program at any time after having met admission requirements if there is availability of space.  Students will be allowed to test out of any speedbuilding course or academic course with appropriate documentation.  The online version of this program (B202) may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements.

 

Offered through BRSCR:

Scopist Training Online (C302) may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements.

CART/Captioning Training (D401) program will be offered in the Spring and Fall.  See the school calendar for specific dates of entry.  The online version of this program (D402) may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements.

Voice Writing CR Training (E101) may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements. 

Voice Writing CART/Captioning Training (E201) may be entered at any time year-round after having met admission requirements. 

ENROLLMENT IN ALL PROGRAMS IS LIMITED!

Baton Rouge Campus (BRSCR):  Onsite Day classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Night classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:45 pm.  Classes meet year-round with scheduled holiday breaks.  Scopist Training and Voice Writing are offered online only. 

Metairie Campus (PICR):  Onsite Day classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Night classes meet Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Classes meet year-round with scheduled holiday breaks.

Note:  Online courses are self-paced.  Length of time to completion may vary.

The projected length of the program for Court Reporter Training with Theory (A101) is 24-30 months.  The projected length of the program for Court Reporter Training without Theory (B201) is 18-24 months.  The projected length of the program for CART/Captioning Training (D401) is 24-30 months.  The projected length of the program for Voice Writing CR Training (E101) is 9 months.The projected length of the program for Voice Writing CART/Captioning Training (E201) is 9 months.  All online courses are self-paced and may be attained in the same length of time; however, it will be incumbent upon the student to maximize their study routine to ensure consistent progression.

A student’s progression through any program is dependent upon a student’s dedication to practice and efficient use of time and resources.

 

EQUIPMENT:  Court reporting students, as well as CART/Captioning students will provide their own stenowriters, Stentura SRT 400, laptop computers, books, and supplies at their own expense.  Scoping students are required to have a laptop for transcription use onsite and will be required to provide the required textbook for each academic.  The required texts are listed on the Website.  Used equipment, as well as textbooks, is always allowed.  Follow this link to download our laptop computer recommendations. 

FEES:  A $125 nonrefundable application fee will be collected at the time of application.  Registration, as well as application fee, may be completed online by following the links on the Website. 

TRANSFERRING STUDENTS:  PICR will accept transferees with appropriate documentation of completion of a recognized program of theory, current speed level, and any required testing deemed appropriate by directors.  Enrollment is limited.
